Dwight Robert “Chip” Venell, 74, of Lecanto, passed away suddenly on February 19, 2026, at HCA Citrus Hospital in Inverness. Dwight was born on June 11, 1951 to the late Dwight R. and Alice (Robertson) Venell, in Evanston, Illinois.
“Chip,” as he was affectionately known, came to Citrus County from Acton, Maine in 2015. A retired carpenter, Chip was a dedicated volunteer for Inverness Crime Watch, Rails to Trails Patrol, Citrus County Community Emergency Response Team, and Habitat for Humanity. He previously served as a volunteer for the York County Shelter and the Town of Acton Recycling Program, and he was the Acton Planning Board chairman for many years.
Chip was a lifelong Methodist and member at First United Methodist Church of Homosassa. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth Venell. Other survivors include his children, Andrew (Lauren) Venell of Chicago, IL, and daughter Elizabeth Venell of Lecanto, FL; brothers Douglas Venell and Tom, John, and Richard Bradley; sisters Alison Moon, Barbara Donahue, and Alexis Bradley; and granddaughter, Rosa Venell.
He was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by family and friends. He will be remembered for his affable nature and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Private cremation arrangements are under the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness, FL. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 6, 2026 at 3:30pm at First United Methodist Church of Homosassa.

Heartfelt condolences to Chip’s family and friends. I served on the York County Budget Committee with Chip for several years. I always found him to be thoughtful and serious about the issues we faced. I also appreciated his sense of humor. I hope his memory is a blessing to you all at this difficult time.
