Rudolph E. “Rudy” Schweitz

Rudolph E. “Rudy” Schweitz

Rudolph E. “Rudy” Schweitz, of Inverness, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025 in Gainesville, FL. He was 91. Rudy was born in Waterloo, NY to Henry and Theresa Quast Schweitz. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean conflict and served his time proudly. After he was honorably discharged he met Gloria R. Swanson, who was named after the famous actress) at a stock car race. She was there with her friend and he was there with his buddy. They fell in love and began a life together on April 26, 1958, which lasted just a few days shy of their 67th wedding anniversary. Rudy took pride in the fact that he was a talented carpenter, and he and Gloria owned and operated a construction company together. They worked very well together, she handled the people and the bookkeeping and he handled the majority of the labor (there were several times she would help him with the labor). Rudy and Gloria moved down to Florida more than 20 years ago after retiring, coming to Inverness from Clyde, NY. He and Gloria have both been very active members of the Inverness First United Methodist Church, and he would head up the barbeques they would hold. He was well loved and respected, and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife Gloria R. Schweitz, Inverness; their children Dr. Wendy Flynn of Gainesville and Dean Schweitz of Singapore; seven grandchildren; and other family members and dear friends. A celebration of Rudy’s life will be held at the Inverness First United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00am, with his family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care, Inverness.
