Joseph Kaess Wieland, born in Cleveland, Ohio passed away at the age of 69 after living a full life driven by his love of tanks, planes, boats, guns and history, as well as his family, friends and animals. He had fought a long hard battle with cancer and passed away at Joe’s Point, a property that has been in the family since the 1960’s, in Floral City, FL on Thursday, May 16th, 2024.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Nancy Wieland (Barr), their son Skylor Wieland (Victoria Rutenbeck Wieland), and their grand-daughter Hanna Weintrobe. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark Wieland (Erica Jablon Wieland) and David Wieland (Elise Davis), his sister Lisa Hill (Thomas Hill), and brothers, Frank and Chris Marzillo.
He will be received in Heaven by his mom and dad, Helen and Joe Wieland, his son Chris Kinkaid and loving dog Maggie. Along with his two lifelong friends, John McGettrick and Donnie Adams.
Joe started a lifelong love of aviation as a young boy in the Civil Air Patrol through which he was able to earn his pilot’s license, a hobby which would stick with him for the rest of his life.

Joe was a proud military veteran. He started his military service at the young age of 17, where he would be known as Sergeant Joseph Wieland and would serve as a Tank Commander in the Third Armored Division 1st Battalion 32nd Armored Regiment (Bandits).
Joe worked a myriad of unique jobs including working on a ocean going tug boat, training guard dogs, filling coolant towers, owning a Pawn Shop and working with fuel tanks.
He retired from Pinellas County Schools after 8 years as Night Foreman in Plant Operations. During the Great American Teach-In he would give the students an aviation lesson and inspire all the young pilots in the room. After retirement, he leaned into his love of animals spending his days working part time at the Pasadena Pet Motel, where he fell in love with Charles, Nancy and Joe’s golden corgi rescue.
Joe will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched.
Military Honors will be rendered at Florida National Cemetery on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 3:00 pm with V.F.W. Post 4337 officiating. Friends may gather at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home on Friday at 1:00 pm to fellowship with the family. The procession will depart for the cemetery promptly at 2:15 pm.
