Peter Frederick Smith, age 85, Homosassa, FL passed away at home on April 26, 2024. Mr Smith was born in Jamaica, New York on November 1, 1938 to the late Laurens and Ruth (Nielson) Smith and came to this area 26 years ago from Higganum, Ct. He worshipped at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lecanto. Before moving to Florida, he retired from the telecommunications industry following 30 years of service and served our country in the U.S. Army.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Carole Lauer Smith; 2 children: Steven (Christi) Smith from Decatur, AL and Leslie (Mark) Hobbs of Sharps Chapel, TN; His daughter in law, Lezlie Smith, widow of the late Christopher Smith; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was also predeceased by a brother, Warren and one of the grandchildren.
A Military Graveside Service is scheduled for Friday, May 3rd at 2:00 PM from Florida National Cemetery. Following that service, family and friends will return to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lecanto for a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 4:00 PM. The Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home is assisting the family.
