Dorothy Major, age 89, of Floral City, FL passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto. Dorothy was born on January 15, 1928 in Chicago, IL to the late Frank and Emily (Motitchka) Deane. In 1945 she married Norman S. Major with whom she shared 48 years of loving marriage until his passing in 1993. Dorothy was employed as a Computer Technician in the Automotive Industry throughout her life. She was a Christian by faith and a taught Sunday School for a number of years in Glen Ellyn, IL. She volunteered her time as a troop leader for the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and had worked as a substitute teacher for the Glen Ellyn School District. Dorothy loved to fish, and was a talented craft maker and had won awards for her crochet and pine needle works. She will be remembered as a wonderful and caring mother, mother in law and grandmother.
Those who will mourn Dorothy’s passing include her son, Steven Major and his wife Elisabeth of Sarasota, FL; her daughter, Judi Tubel of Charlotte, N.C.; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
