Earl E Overfield

Earl Edward Overfield, age 88, of Lecanto, FL passed on September 1, 2016 with his loving wife by his side and while under the care of the staff of HPH Hospice. Earl was born on March 20, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA to Norman and Sofie (Fugman) Adams Overfield. After graduating high school, Earl enlisted in the Marine Corps and spent 3 years in China. He was one of the many China Marines who were there to help keep the communist out. The slogan “Once a Marine, Always a Marine” certainly applied to Earl.

After his discharge, Earl went to work for United Airlines, where he worked in Customer Services. In 1960 he moved into marketing and found a job he truly loved. He spent the next 20 years promoting Hawaii and Florida as vacation destinations. Needless to say, he made many trips to both places. After retiring in 1983, Earl and a friend started Travcon, a company that marketed condos in Hawaii and Florida.

As a young man, Earl enjoyed sport cars. Later on, he and his wife Darleen enjoyed spending 6 summers sailing the Chesapeake Bay. After moving here from Pittsburgh in 2005, they enjoyed fishing, crabbing and scalloping.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents and brother Norman. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Darleen (Hoffman) and four children: Lynn (Michael) Cameron, Tuscon, AZ; Ken Overfield, DuBois, WY; Julie (Todd) Leigh, Newport Beach, CA and Rob (Alicia) Overfield, Stewartsville, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Lois McCann, Dillsburgh, PA; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild; Earl is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
