Donald Darrel Austin, age 73, of Floral City, FL died at his residence on September 9, 2016. Donald was born on August 4, 1943 in Seaman, OH to the late Donald and Velma (Smalley) Austin. On July 23, 1967 he married Sharon Whitley with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Donald is a former member of the United States Army Reserves. <\/p>\n
He was employed by Verizon Telephone as a repairman for 28 years and was able to retire at the age of 50. Donald and Sharon were snowbirds for a number of years but last year moved from Peebles, OH to make Floral City their permanent home. <\/p>\n
A Baptist by faith, Donald was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Floral City. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #581 F&AM, Peebles, OH. Donald loved all sports especially baseball and was a devoted Cincinnati Reds fan. He was an avid collector of baseball memorabilia. He enjoyed traveling, reading and he read the newpaper on a daily basis. Donald was very handy around the house. <\/p>\n
Those left to mourn Donald’s passing and cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sharon; son, Jody Austin and his wife Amanda of Peebles, OH; daughter, Shari Dawn Stapleton and her husband David of Peebles, OH; brother, Steve Austin of Lansing, MI; brother-in-law, Ron Whitley and his wife Joyce of Peebles, OH; grandchildren: Anthony Grey and Carrie Rider; nephew, Jared Austin; and nieces: Amber Clark, Lynn Bilder and Ronda Pendland. <\/p>\n
A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM from the Church of Christ and Christian Union in Peebles, OH, conducted by Pastor Dave Hopkins. Friends may visit with the family at the Church of Christ and Christian Union on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Donald will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Peebles.
