Lorraine Adams, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Floral City, Florida on March 29, 2013. She was born on December 24, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York to John Leaver and Sarah Leaver Serocki. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Her beautiful caring spirit brought happiness and laughter to everyone who knew her; she will be deeply missed by her daughter, family and friends.
\nLorraine grew up in\u00a0Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Fordham University. She was a devout Catholic who began her life-long career in teaching, working with disadvantaged children. She believed that all children deserve an equal and fair education and that each unique child had something positive to contribute. She was named Floral City Elementary teacher of the year in 1990. She was much beloved by her students.
\nLorraine married \u00a0Thomas Matthew Adams in 1963 in \u00a0Brentwood, New York. They were happily married for 42 years. Lorraine was preceded in death by \u00a0her parents John Leaver and Sarah Serocki, her stepfather Joseph Serocki, husband Thomas Matthew Adams, and sister Doris Golebuski.
\nShe is survived by her daughter Julia Marie Adams and son-in-law Neil Scheurich, and grandchildren Julia and Ethan Scheurich of Wake Forest, North Carolina; sister Peggy Adams of Port Jefferson, New York; nieces Mary Arbeit of Setauket, New York and Carol Woodruff of Aurora, Colorado; her great-nieces, great-nephews; her former son-in-law Thomas Leggett of Durham, North Carolina and other relatives.
\nThe Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, April 4th , 11:00 AM from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Fr. Erwin Belgica, celebrant. Burial will follow in Fero Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reposing will be on Wednesday from 2-4 & 5-7 PM at Chas E Davis Funeral Home.
