Altomare, age 79, of Inverness, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Born in Columbiana, Ohio, James moved with his family to Citrus County in 1983. He was the devoted husband of the late Sandra W. Altomare and a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.

A man of many talents and passions, James was a pilot, musician, and singer who performed in a band in his younger years. He had a deep love for music, ham radio, and electronics. He served as president of a two-way communications business that he and his wife operated for many years. James cherished time with his family above all, but he also found joy in nature — especially the lakes, mountains of Tennessee, and the beauty of small-town festivals. He loved cooking and sharing meals, being silly with those he cared about, and helping others whenever he could.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra W. Altomare, and his father, James V. Altomare.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children: son Timothy Altomare and wife Melissa of Robbinsville, North Carolina; daughter Catherine Tanner and husband Ron Tanner of Inverness, Florida; and daughter Angela Anderkin of Floral City, Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Tiani Pacheco, Christian Anderkin and wife Michaela Anderkin, Madison Altomare, Montana Altomare, Jason Sebastian Anderkin, and Meleana Altomare. Additional survivors include his mother, Mary Altomare of San Diego, California; and four siblings: David Altomare of San Diego, California; Carol Hayes and husband Roger Hayes of Santee, California; Cindy Peterson and husband Al Peterson of Jamul, California; and Debi Kelly and husband Mike Kelly of San Diego, California.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take that special trip you’ve always dreamed about, make time for the mountains or a favorite lake, gather with loved ones, and live life to the fullest — just as James did.

Arrangements under the direction of Chas.
