Caroline Terhune, age 65, Inverness, FL passed away November 9, 2024 in HCA Citrus Hospital. Caroline was born in Nashville, GA on June 26, 1959 to William and Blanche (Johnson) Carlton. She came to this area 19 years ago with her husband from Las Vegas, NV.
Caroline was a Certified Public Accountant and served our country in the United States Marine Corps, where she was sent overseas to Korea. She was very proud to be able to call herself a marine corps Veteran. As she would always remind her children “Once a Marine always a Marine”. Her proud service in the Marine corps inspired one of her daughters to serve in the Army. She impacted many people’s lives in recovery as well as being of service to anyone in need.
She survived near fatal Covid in 2020 and after 6 weeks in a coma she miraculously woke up. From the moment she recovered Caroline and Marty decided to live the best life they could and went on a cross-country RV trip visiting national parks and family and friends across the mid-west and north west united states, thus accomplishing her lifelong goals. During her travel across the West she was one of the lucky people who got to witness the wild flowers bloom in Death Valle for the first time in 50 years. Caroline loved to travel and very much enjoyed going on multiple cruises, including one to Alaska with Her step-son and daughter, which she had always wanted to do. She had also began reconnecting with long lost family that she never knew she had, as she was adopted. She was so happy to have made these connections and was excited to share her new connections and stories that she had recovered from her ancestry research.
Caroline was loyal and quick to defend anyone or anything that she had respect for. No one will ever forget the near WWE wrestling match that occurred in the backseat of the truck because someone said a disrespectful word about Hellen Keller. Yes, Hellen Keller! Whatever Caroline did she put %100 effort and thought into it.
It’s only fitting to recognize that she gave life to her twin daughters on 9/11 and her life here on earth ended on 11/9. Despite much hardship she was the strongest, most beautiful and wonderful woman who gave so much of her knowledge and was generous to others. She was deeply spiritual and involved in Native culture. For many years she attended multiple Cherokee nation powwows in Cherokee, North Carolina. One thing she especially looked forward to seeing the native dancing events.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Martin Terhune; 2 daughters: June Ashley (Ryan) Wolfe of Rawlings, WY and Julie Anne (Lanny) Wilkinson of Inverness; 1 stepson, Martin Terhune, II of Roseberg, Oregon; 3 step daughters; Julina Hoptowit of Tacoma, WA, Jay Terhune of Inverness, Florida and Christine Terhune of Oregon as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Now is the time to remember an unforgettable soul and wish well Caroline’s passage to the Great Beyond. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory entrusted with arrangements
