Harold William Castings, (Bill) age 56 of Floral City, FL passed away on October 14. 2024 in Citrus Memorial Hospital after a lengthy and difficult fight with cancer. Bill loved the Lord and attended different services as he was able to. Bill was born in Providence, RI on January 17, 1968. He loved this country, and he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. His career in the Air Force brought him from the Aerospace Ground Equipment field onto the flight deck of the Air Force’s C-141 Starlifter as a Flight Engineer. He was so excited to earn his wings. His career in the Air Force allowed him to travel all over the world. He was also a Hazardous Waste/Environmental Compliance Specialist. Bill was a lover of space. He obtained a position at Kennedy Space Center, working on the solid rocket boosters and as an instructor for safety of hazardous waste materials and the environment. Bill also loved learning; he earned two associate degrees. Before moving to Citrus County, he resided in Edgewater, FL.
Bill had several hobbies, but he was most passionate about cooking, flying and fishing. He enjoyed entertaining. The family however would tell you he loved to talk.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Christine Rotman of Cranston, RI.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Mary “Kitty” Castings; his son, Christian Castings of Inverness; a sister, Kerry Gonzalez of Brooksville, FL, along with his Aunt Claudia Bruffy and Uncle Jack Bruffy of Ocean Springs, MS who both served with Bill in the Air Force. He is also survived by his father Mickey Rotman, brother Robert, and sister Casandra. He has a stepson Josh (Joan) and their five children along with multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. Bucky, his loyal service dog, was kind to everyone but he was extremely loyal and devoted to Bill. Graveside military honors are scheduled for Friday, Nov 15th at 2:00 PM at Florida National Cemetery. The procession will depart the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home at 1:15 PM. Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until the cemetery departure.
