Ruth Mason

Ruth Marie Nielsen Mason, 90, of Crystal River, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024. Born in Orange, NJ and raised in West Orange, NJ, Ruth had an older brother, George and an older sister, Elsie. Ruth married her late husband, Alfred, in 1953. She was a member of the Children’s Aid and Adoption Society of New Jersey. She and her husband fostered newborn babies for many years while raising their own family, in Roseland, NJ. After moving to Livingston, NJ, she worked for a publishing company as a proof reader of novels, then as a unit secretary at a smaller private hospital, again while raising her children. She lived in Succasunna, NJ before moving to Inverness, FL, then Crystal River, FL. Ruth was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star in Dover, NJ. She was an active volunteer for the Key Training Center in Inverness, then Crystal River. In 2017, after 64 years of marriage, Alfred passed away. Ruth is also preceded in death by her sons Charles and Alfred. Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter Christine Alte of Crystal River; her loving grandchildren Thomas Alte (Meagan), Kevin Alte (Alexis), Justin Mason, Lori Horton (Mark), and Teresa Mason; and great grandchildren Sydney Alte, Gavin Alte, Jaxon Horton, and Brielle Horton. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness.
