John B Payne, Jr, Age 62, Citrus Springs, FL

John B. “Johnnie” Payne, Jr., passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was a loving and caring son, husband, father, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed by many but will live on forever in our cherished memories.

He was born to the late John B. and Minnie (Burke) Payne on April 14, 1962. He was the youngest of three children: Polly (Gene) Bray, deceased, and Sylvia Glascock (Andy Malcolmb – life partner). John graduated from Fauquier High School in 1980 where he met his high school sweetheart, Kathryn “Kathy” Sours. They married in April 1983. Together, they raised two sons: John B. Payne, III (Katie) and Zachary M. (Alexa) Payne.

John started working at a very young age at his father’s business, Payne’s Restaurant. He was often seen standing on a milk crate so he could reach the cash register. John spent most of his career working as a defense contractor for the U.S. Airforce and Army. He was very honored to assist our country’s enlisted men and women. He had a great respect for those who served and sacrificed their lives for our freedom. John was well-known for his contagious humor and quick wit. He had a way of communicating and relating to others that made them feel comfortable and at ease.

John had many hobbies including camping, fishing, playing drums, playing baseball from little league through high school, riding motorcycles and gardening. He was an avid sports fan – especially for the Washington Redskins. He spent 20 years on the waiting list to become a season ticketholder.

John was a devoted father, known for his presence and coaching efforts at his children’s sporting events. His favorite place on earth was the beach and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He had 5 grandchildren including: Harper, Charly, Roman, Lliam and Adelynn with another due in October named Zeke. He also loved his faithful friend and companion, Harley, a labrador retriever.

At John’s request, there will be no funeral services. His family will have a celebration of life ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in his name to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
