James Britain

James A. “Jim” Britain passed away on March 25, 2024, at HCA Citrus Memorial Hospital. He was 91 years old. James was born in Hartford, CT on January 15, 1933, to Aubrey A. and Alice (Holland) Britain. He grew up in Marblehead, MA, and graduated from Marblehead High School. For over 40 years, he lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was a die-hard Brewers and Packers fan.

Jim was many things to many people. First, he was a son, as well as a brother to sister, Alice Griffin (1937 – 2016). He was a patriot. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Morse Code Decoder. He was a graduate of Norwich University with a degree in Business Administration. He was a true salesman and worked as a Real Estate Broker and Insurance Agent. He was a devout Catholic with unyielding faith, and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim was a husband, father and grandfather, mentor, and friend,

Jim was a recovering alcoholic with over 40 years of sobriety. His life was one of hard work, dedication, determination, devotion, strength, love, and recovery. These are the characteristics that led him to help establish the Pass it on Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Recognizing the struggles faced by many people in his community, he wanted to establish, a place for those battling addiction to find guidance, support, and hope. He sponsored and mentored many people on their road to overcoming addiction.

Jim tried to live his life by two mottos “One Day at a Time” and “Do the Next Right Thing.” These words gave him direction and purpose. He was an example and inspiration to those who knew him, and he will be missed.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40+ years, Judith; his three children Timothy Britain, Claire Cerrato, and David Britain from his first wife Patricia (Healy) Britain Cavagnaro ; their spouses, Jane, Bill, and Mariela; his two children Shannon Davis and Jamie Cotton from his second wife Ardith (Rome) Britain; their spouses, Jeff and Tirrell; his fourteen grandchildren, Lara Miller, Conor Britain, Meaghan Nickols, Colleen Britain, Brett Cerrato, Sam Cerrato, Allison Britain, Austin Davis, Hannah Davis, Aliya Matzke, Mia Cotton, Celine Cotton, Tidus Cotton, Aidan Cotton; his ten great grandchildren, Michael Miller, Lydia Miller, Rose Britain, Owen Britain, Tristan Nickols, Olivia Cerrato, Braxton Cerrato, Giacomo Cerrato, Connor Cerrato, Jonah Davis.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on May 29, 2024, at St. Augustine Church at 2530 S. Howell Avenue, Milwaukee WI 53207

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Pass It On Club at 6229 W. Forest Home Avenue in Milwaukee, WI in honor of Jim’s commitment to addiction recovery.
