Robert Neil Russell, age 88, of Hernando, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024.
He was born to the late Paul and Mary Lou Russell on February 25, 1935, in Charlotte, NC.
He married the love of his life, his beloved wife of 64 years, Charlotte, on December 29, 1956, and raised two children together: Karen Russell Bean (Mark) and Robert Brian Russell (Kim) both of Georgia.
Neil and his wife Charlotte made Citrus County their home in 2001 when they moved here from their hometown of Marietta, GA. Neil worked in the printing industry his entire career before retiring. His work spanned roles in managing printing operations, providing consulting services, and troubleshooting issues with companies in the printing business. Eventually, both Neil and Charlotte successfully owned their own company that specialized in managing and selling ink and supplies to printing companies across the Southeastern region of the United States.
Neil is affectionately remembered for his service as a proud member of the United States Marine Corp and his status as a veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed studying Bible prophecy, and was loved by countless family members, friends, and members of his community. He was fondly referred to as Uncle Neil by numerous nieces and nephews that he cherished deeply. He was Baptist by faith and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Crystal River, Crystal River, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul, and Mary Lou Russell; his wife, Charlotte Owenby Russell; his brother Bill Russell and his sister Lynda Kelley.
Those left to cherish Neil’s memory are his two children, Karen Bean (Mark) and Brian Russell (Kim) both of Georgia; his two grandchildren, Corbin, and Brianna; his brother Truett Russell (Emily) of Georgia; his sister-in-law Martha Naessig (Tom) of Florida, sister-in-law Taftene Baker (Jerry) and sister-in-law Joyce Warren both of Georgia.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Pat Cooney for her dedicated and attentive care of Neil. Her steadfast commitment to accompanying him to countless doctor’s appointments and managing his medical needs is greatly appreciated by the family.
According to Neil’s wishes, a small, private family gathering will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The date is yet to be determined.
Cremation with Care is under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL.
