Bob Huscher

Bob Huscher, beloved husband, father, grandfather and Navy veteran passed away on February 12, 2024, at the age of 86.

Born on January 23, 1938, he dedicated 24 years of his life to serving his country in the US Navy, where he exhibited unwavering courage and commitment. His service took him to distant shores and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor.

In 1963, Bob married the love of his life, Joan, with whom he shared 53 years of unwavering companionship until her passing in 2016. Together they raised two children Bob and Kellie, and welcomed an amazing daughter in law, Debbie. Bob’s greatest pride and joy was his grandsons Zach, Bobby, Rowan and Jack.

Bob’s adventurous spirit led him to establish the US Navy Bobsled Team, after being dared to try the sport himself. This bold initiative culminated in their Olympic debut in 1968. His dedication and skill propelled the team to success, securing record times, World Cup victories and many prestigious awards.

Beyond his accomplishments on the ice, Bob volunteered for the Sheriff’s department and was deeply involved in various veterans’ organizations. Known for his patriotism, Bob always carried flags with him, ready to replace worn-out flags as a symbol of his enduring love for his country and community.

He will be deeply missed by his family friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. As his Bobsled Mates used to say “Bob – you had a great run!”

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on March 23, 2024, at 3:00PM, at the Charles E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, Florida, with Rev. Mike Kramer of the First United Methodist Church in Inverness.
