Lloyd Alan Lockliear, 92, Hernando, FL passed away at home on November 7, 2023. Lloyd was born on December 16, 1930 in Waycross, GA to the late Clarence C. and Vivian (Maloon) Lockliear. He grew up in Maine and Miami, FL, moving to Bradenton, FL in 1974. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1948, retiring from the USMC Reserves in 1980 as Master Gunnery SGT. While in the Marines, he served in Korea receiving a Bronze Star Medal and three Purple Heart Medals in combat, being shot in the chest. He worked for Florida Power & Light for 38 years, retiring in December 1998. He worked his way up from digging holes for poles to lineman, then underground cable splicer, supervision including trouble department, yard superviser, power plant construction, and transmission line construction all over the state. He was an avid shooter winning 1970 USMC National Pistol Champion and many other civilian and military pistol matches. He was a NRA instructor and ran the rifle range for West Bradenton Baptist Church Youth Camp for 18 years. Over the years, he invented techniques and tools for FP & L and personal life including a handmade cannon that actually shot cannonballs. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and diver. He was very good with his hands and was an artist. He served in prison ministry for 17 years. He taught Sunday School for many years and did anything and everything that needed to be done in West Bradenton Baptist Church. He was also a Masonic member. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Inverness, FL.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ruth Lockliear; his children: Duane Lockliear and wife Debbie of Palm City, FL; Forrest Lockliear and wife Sue of Waverly Hall, GA, and DeLania Locklier of Myakka City, FL ; his brother, Bruce Lockliear and wife Anita of Dade City, FL; three grandchildren.
Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 12:30 PM from the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL with Rev. Robert Allen officiating followed by full military honors being rendered by the US Marine Corps League. Arrangements are entrusted to the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL
