William Robert Stender, age 86, Inverness, FL passed away September 15, 2023 at Arbor Trail Rehab & Nursing Center.
Bill was born in New York, NY on December 19, 1936 to the late William and Anna Opalecky Stender and moved to this area in 2005 from Ft. Lauderdale.
He was a retired Registered Nurse, having worked at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. He not only served in the nursing capacity but was on the administrative staff of the hospital as well.
He lectured on his profession at the University of Miami and served on the teaching staff. His passion was rescuing German Shepherd Dogs and worked locally with Citrus County volunteers. In addition to being in the medical field, he moved to Puerto Rico and opened a “guest house” which he operated before he sold it and moved back home. Bill also served our country as a Captain in the U.S. Army for 2 years.
Bill was never married. He was one of 3 children. His sister, Barbara Shortreed lives in Inverness and his brother, Raymond died in 2022. There are still 3 nieces and 1 nephew surviving.
Bill’s urn will be placed in a niche at Florida National Cemetery. Cremation was entrusted to the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory.
