Howard E. Barrett, Jr., a true adventurer at heart, was born on October 8, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky. He peacefully departed this world on September 6, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, life, and indomitable spirit. Howard answered the call of duty during the Korean War, where he served with distinction in the United States Army, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain. His dedication to his country reflected his unwavering sense of honor and commitment. One of Howard’s most daring adventures was in 1968 when he took to the skies, piloting a Cessna 172 from Bowman Field in Louisville all the way to Shannon, Ireland. This incredible journey symbolized his boundless love for life and his fearless pursuit of new experiences.
Following his honorable service in the Army, Howard embarked on a new path, training as a Chemical Engineer and joining the esteemed ranks of BF Goodrich. His work took him on a global odyssey, allowing him to explore the world’s wonders. He embraced every culture, making friends wherever he roamed.
It was during one of these international assignments, in Venezuela, that Howard’s life took a romantic turn. There, he met his beloved wife, Antonia, and together, they embarked on a journey filled with love and adventure. They sailed across the vast Atlantic, on a small 27 foot sailboard from England to the Canary Islands and then to the Caribbean in just 35 days, sharing the beauty of the worlds and each other’s company.
Howard leaves behind his devoted wife, Antonia, and his loving children. His family and friends will forever hold dear the memories of his zest for life, his boundless love, and his relentless enthusiasm for each new experience. Howard Barrett’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we celebrate his life, we honor his legacy by embracing the same spirit of adventure and love for life that defined his remarkable journey.
