Vernard Lloyd “Butch” Shampine, age 79, Inverness, FL passed away September 12, 2023 in Citrus Memorial Hospital.
Butch was born in Massena, NY on November 4, 1943 to the late Carlton and Esther (Yerdon) Shampine and moved to this area in 2006 from Virginia Beach, VA. He spent 26 years serving our country in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7) and served during the Viet Nam war. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Kathryn (Rennie) Shampine; 2 children: JoAnn Sawyer and husband Timothy; Jean Brim and husband Harry, both of Virginia Beach, VA; 2 sisters: Christine (Bill) Countryman of Carthage, NY; Doreen Hall of Virginia Beach, VA; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol MacMartin in June, 2023; and his sister, Vernita Bowen.
There is a Celebration of Life scheduled on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 12 Noon at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. Family and friends will share their memories. Burial with Military Honors will commence at 2:00 PM at Florida National Cemetery with the U.S. Navy and VFW Post 4337 rendering honors.
