Barbara Joy Hackett was met by her lord and savior in her Inverness home on July 3, 2023. She was present with family including her two children and two grandchildren along with her husband of 65 plus years.
Barbara was born to Ruth and Dan Joy in Providence R. I. She was the oldest of four siblings. Very strict grade schools recognized her intelligence. She passed grade schools and college with consistent honors, graduating URI magnum cum laude with a BS degree in home economics. She remained an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and attended alumni meetings in Sarasota, FL.
It was not just Barbara’s intellectual achievements that made her truly exceptional; it was her loving and nurturing nature that left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around her. As a mother, she poured her heart and soul into raising her children, imparting in them the values of compassion, kindness, and the importance of education. Her children will forever be grateful for the unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love she bestowed upon them.
Beauty flowed from Barbara. Whether it was personal or visual she received the respect of others by her teaching prowess and a smile that could warm your heart.
After marriage she and her husband raised their two boys with adventures in sailing and boat trips on the inland waterways. Her husband, working as a pilot for a major airline, allowed them to use travel benefits to major sites throughout the United States and a few foreign countries.
Barbara will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life for Barbara will be conducted on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM from the First Presbyterian Church in Inverness, with Dr. Dennis Bennett, officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 206 Washington Ave, Inverness, FL 34450 ([email protected]) or The Heritage Foundation, Washington, DC ([email protected] or secured.heritage.org)
