Betty Shipp Dillinger, age 93, Tavares, FL, died March 3, 2023 under the care of Avante at Mt. Dora Rehabilitation Center and Vitas Hospice Care.
There is a Celebration of Life scheduled for Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 11:30 AM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home of Inverness with Mr. Jason McCreary, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Hills of Rest Cemetery, Floral City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 AM until the service begins.
Betty was born in Nocatee, FL, on January 23, 1930 to the late William Shipp and Pauline Waldron Shipp. She lived in Orlando for 55 years before moving to Tavares in 2012. She was a homemaker, first and foremost, working part time at various times in retail and child care, her most rewarding of which was as a School Bus Monitor for special needs children for the Orange County Public School System.
She was a member of the Mount Dora Golden Triangle Church of Christ and enjoyed traveling, camping, reading, working crossword puzzles, bird-watching, gardening, and most of all, cooking and taking care of her large family.
Survivors include 5 children: Austin Carey Dillinger, Jr., Leesburg, FL; Jim Dillinger, Jacksonville, FL; Kathy Dillinger, Tavares, FL; Jane (Gene) Hurtt, Sorrento, FL; Lisa (Brian) Word, Minor Hill, TN; 1 brother, Walter Shipp, Floral City; 1 sister, Pam (Tommy) Meadows, High Springs, FL; 5 grandchildren: Phillip Dillinger, Katie Reetzke, Brandon Hurtt, Michael Word, and Olivia Word; 6 great grandchildren: Chloe Reetzke, Karson Hurtt, Elizabeth Reetzke, Ruthanne Reetzke, Everleigh Hurtt, and Daniel Reetzke III. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Dillinger, following 58 years of marriage. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Bill Shipp and John Shipp; 2 sisters, Lillian Stokes and Faye Metz Cairl; 2 sisters-in-law, Kay Shipp and Juanita Shipp, and her grandson, Corey Word.
