Franklin Sullivan Cuyler, Jr., 90, Inverness, FL passed away February 27, 2023 at home surrounded by his family under Vitas Hospice care.
Frank Cuyler was an only child born to Franklin Cuyler, Sr. and Virginia Holtz Cuyler on March 2, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland. He lived in Lake Worth, FL as a teenager and at 18 years of age he enlisted in the US Marine Corp. He was posted at the Marine Barracks in Washington, DC, known as the 8th & I. He served during the Eisenhower administration at both the White House and Camp David. After his service, he attended Florida State University receiving his degree in Business Administration. He went on to a distinguished career in banking, first as a District Bank Examiner then as a bank officer including Executive Vice President of the Brannen Bank of Inverness. Later in his career he managed several companies, was in real estate, and retired as General Manager of Rusaw Homes in Crystal River.
Since arriving in Inverness in 1962, he was active in the community, serving as President of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce, Grand Marshall of the Inverness Christmas Parade, a Director of the Citrus County Fair Association, member of the Kiwanis Club, and a member and active volunteer of the Citrus County Historical Society.
He enjoyed travel, including trips to Canada, Mexico, Spain, many around the Caribbean, across the continental US and Hawaii. Las Vegas was a special destination where he and his wife enjoyed dining, shows and, of course, the Video Poker machines. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing games and cards with family and friends becoming a master Sequence board game player. He was famous for always thinking of ways of tweaking games to make them more fun and interesting.
He is survived by Gloria his loving wife of 44 years, son Kenneth Cuyler (wife Barbara), daughter Sandra Cuyler (husband Wally Ganzi) all of Naples, FL; step-daughter Stephanie Russ, step-grandchildren Chelsea and Derek Russ, all of Inverness, FL, and step-great granddaughter, Ella Russ.
Frank was known and much loved for his kindness and sense of humor and will be missed by many.
Military Graveside Services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Florida National Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather at the at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory from 12 Noon until 1:00 PM. The procession will depart promptly at 1:15 for the cemetery.
