James Alan Carroll, age 88, Inverness, FL passed away November 13, 2022 at Citrus Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Mr. Carroll was born in Opp, AL on December 22, 1933 to the late Andrew D. Carroll and Willie Lee (McCutcheon) Carroll and moved to Florida from Alabama in 2001. He enlisted in the Navy in 1952 and proudly served our country for 23 years obtaining the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. In 1974, he joined Burroughs as an Electronics Technician until his retirement in 1992. He attended Crossroads Baptist Church in Inverness.
Mr. Carroll taught his children many life lessons including the meaning of integrity through his words and action. He was a man of his word. If he made a promise, you knew he would follow through. He was known for his skills around a smoker or grill. His homemade barbeque sauce was highly sought after. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nina Gilbert Carroll; 3 children: James Alan (Tammy) Carroll, Inglis, FL; Patricia Faye (Frank) Carroll, Debary, FL; Melinda Lou (Ken) Thompson, Deltona, FL ; 3 brothers: Robert, Floyd, and Thomas Carroll; sister, Willie Ann Anthony; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Toole, his brother, Durwood Carroll, his sister, Juanita Struble.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home of Inverness with Rev. Steve Baker, pastor of the Crossroads Baptist Church of Inverness officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials requested to the Navy-Marines Relief Society.
