Thomas S. McMath

Thomas Scott McMath of Hernando, FL passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Oxford, FL on November 15, 2021 at the age of 64. He was born to James A. McMath and the late Wanda (McClain) McMath on May 4, 1957 in Indianapolis, IN.

Tom earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. For 3 years he was a Professor at Florida State University teaching Diesel Mechanics. However, his main occupation throughout his lifetime was restoring classic cars and building cars. Tom loved all things to do with cars and it was his life’s passion. Whenever he had spare time, he would be working on cars as well as taking on home improvement tasks. He was talented in so many areas and always did a wonderful job on any project he took on. In 2018, Tom and his wife Gail found the perfect home with some land on which they were able to build his dream garage.

Tom was a Christian by faith and attended worship services at the Hills Church in Beverly Hills, FL. He had a deep abiding love for the Lord and was very active in his church. He volunteered much of his time helping out many of the older members of the congregation to run errands. He would drive them to the grocery store as well as help out around their house if needed. Tom enjoyed reading his Bible and his daily devotional. When he took time out for himself, he liked going swimming and working out at the YMCA. He also enjoyed running. Tom would also like people to know that he was very patriotic and proud to be an American.

Those left to mourn Tom’s passing include his wife of 14 years, Gail McMath; daughters: Tonya Leonard of California and Tammi McMath of Ohio; his father, James A. McMath of Indiana; brother, Michael McMath of Indiana; sisters: Sherry Cooper and her husband Gary of Indiana, Cynthia Karr of Indiana; and grandchildren: John and Zoey. Tom will also be missed by his beloved Beagle and running partner, Thunder. He was just recently preceded in death by his mother, Wanda McMath.
