Joanne A. Smith of Inverness, FL passed away at her home on October 28, 2021 at the age of 91. She was born to the late Donald and Irene (Heinz) Carlile on September 24, 1930 in Peoria, IL. Following high school, Joanne attended St. Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in Peoria, IL and became a Registered Nurse. She and her husband made Citrus County their home in 1974 after relocating from Beloit, WI. Joanne worked as a nurse at Citrus Memorial Hospital for 17 years. She had previously worked as a clinic nurse and a school nurse over the years. Joanne was a member of the R&R Retired Nursing Club, Inverness VFW Post #4337 and Inverness Moose Lodge #2112. She was a Christian by faith and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Inverness. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Those left to mourn Joanne’s passing include her daughter, Cynthia Tobin and her husband Thomas of Inverness, FL; sons: Daniel Smith and his wife Alice of Jacksonville, FL, Steven Smith and his wife Sun-Hee of San Antonio, TX; brother, James Carlile and his wife Lynn of Peoria, IL; sisters: Julia Ann Thompson and her husband Jim of Chillicothe, IL, Flo Krueger and her husband Jim of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren: Joshua, Jennifer and her husband Edgar, Katie, Sarah, Kenneth, Katherine, Samuel; and 2 great grandchildren: Emilio and Ezekiel. She will also be missed by her dear cat, Angel. Joanne was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Kenneth Smith on June 5, 1995 and sister, Mary Lou Dowd.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance for Joanne is scheduled for Thursday November 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness and will be conducted by Pastor Darrell Reneau of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Friends are invited to join the family in visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Following the chapel service, a brief committal service will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at 12:30 PM. Arrangements are under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
