Clarence W. Raby, Jr.

Clarence “Wayne” Raby, Jr. of Inverness, FL passed away at Citrus Memorial Hospital on September 17, 2021 at the age of 73. He was born to the late Betty Jane (Morricel) and Clarence Wayne Raby, Sr. on March 16, 1948 in Hartford City, IN.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Wayne began a career in carpentry and eventually owned and operated his own company called Anything Cedar in Fort Myers, FL.

On March 18, 1972 he married Mary Lou (Schlotter) with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Together they made Citrus County their home 32 years ago after relocating from Fort Myers, FL. Wayne was the caretaker at Good Counsel Camp in Floral City for 5 years. He was a Catholic by faith and a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness.

In his spare time Wayne loved to read and would finish a book he was interested in within a day. He liked to tinker and enjoyed taking on projects around the house. Wayne also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and playing scrabble and yahtzee with them. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, generosity and love of cooking.

In addition to his wife Mary Lou, those left to mourn Wayne’s passing include his sons: Christopher Alan Raby and his wife Yarelys of Inverness, FL, Clarence Wayne Raby, III and his wife Tina of Kingston, MO; sister, Lynn Daugherty of Inverness, FL; and his grandchildren: Chance, Trent, Logan, Tarra, Hope, Katrina, CJ and Gabby.

The Mass of Catholic Burial will be offered on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 10:00 AM, at the outdoor chapel of the Good Counsel Camp in Floral City, con-celebrated by Fr. James Johnson and Msgr. Bob Morris. Following the Mass, full military honors will be rendered by the VFW Honor Guard #7122 of Floral City. Friends are invited to fellowship with the family following the Mass, at the Camp mess hall.

Wayne will be laid to rest privately at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date. The family would appreciate guests to please wear masks at all times. In lieu of flowers, Wayne’s family would like donations made to Good Counsel Camp at 8888 E. Gobbler Dr., Floral City, FL 34436, or the Citrus County Veteran’s Coalition, 1081 N. Paul Drive, Inverness, FL 34453. Arrangements are under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
