Leona M. Lotz, 91, of Hernando, FL went home peacefully into the arms of God, on September 16th, 2021, under the loving care of her daughter Karen Lewis, grandson Eric Lewis and family.
Leona was born in East Boston, Massachusetts, February 13th, 1930 to Walter and Lena Stoney. Leona came from a large family consisting of several brothers and sisters, during the Great Depression. She graduated high school and went on to complete business school whereafter she was employed as a secretary in Boston at the State House. From there she met the love of her life, Peter E. Lotz who sadly preceded her in death on December 6, 2011. It was love at first sight while waiting in line to see a movie with her mother. Peter turned around and bought a ticket and sat down next to Leona. Much to Leona’s father’s surprise she had brought back Peter who was in the Coast Guard at the time. Her love for him never died as everyday she thought of him and kept him in her prayers. They had a wonderful life together and enjoyed entertaining their friends, boating, and traveling in their RV out west.
Leona’s main profession in life was an executive secretary in which she retired from Carborundum, an abrasives company in Niagara Falls. After leaving New York to move to St. Petersburg Beach in order to take care of Peter’s father, she also worked at Pass-A-Grille Beach Community Church, as their secretary. After moving to Citrus county she then volunteered at Citrus Memorial Hospital where her daughter worked, to assist her when needed.
Leona loved her three children immensely and enjoyed the times she spent with them. Peter S. Lotz of Niagara Falls, NY is a Master Falconer and she put on the glove at the Erie County Fair to handle a European Barn Owl. John R. Lotz of Middleport, NY would take her riding on his Harley and she loved every minute of it. Karen L. Lewis of Hernando, FL devoted her love and care and shared many happy times together.
Leona loved to sing and play her guitar and once was on stage singing with Ramblin Lou, a popular country western singer, in upstate New York. On a trip to Nashville she cut a 45 singing Crazy, by Patsy Cline. Everyone that met her knew she was as honest as they come. Always smiling and willing to listen and help out if she could. Leona was very devoted to her family and always put them first.
