Henry Earl Messer, of Inverness, Florida, passed away on August 14, 2021, at the age of 93. He was born to the late William Carl Messer and Verne (Phillips) Messer on March 9, 1928, in Waynesville, North Carolina.
When he was 17 years old, Henry enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He came to Citrus County 60 years ago. He studied farming and planted a citrus grove, vegetable gardens, made wine from the grapes he grew, as well as raised livestock. He was self-employed in the fill dirt business for many years and was a man with many interests. A true southerner, Henry enjoyed making cornbread and grits. He enjoyed the history of the Civil War, reading, cruises to Cozumel, his Kindle, researching his family tree, and telling stories about his ancestors.
Those left to cherish Henry’s memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Arlene; his sister Betty Hulse, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his many friends with whom he loved to visit and share a cold beer. Inurnment will take place at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. The Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL is assisting the family.
