James David Couch of Inverness, FL passed away at The Grove Health and Rehab on August 10, 2021 at the age of 91. He was born to the late Woodie Thomas and Grace (McIntosh) Crouch on December 29, 1929 in Ashburn, VA. James proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Specifically, he was a survivor of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign in Korea, a battle which pitted 30,000 American and British troops against over 120,000 Chinese soldiers in brutal cold and terrain. Therefore, he was a proud member of “The Chosin Few” Association. James was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, the Disabled Veterans of America and the Korean War Veterans of America. In his spare time he enjoyed activities at his church, traveling and playing games with his family and friends. Following his military service and prior to retirement, James worked as a Operations Field Supervisor for the public school system. He was a Christian by faith and formerly attended services at the First Baptist Church of Inverness.
Those left to mourn James’ passing include his daughters: Ruth Ellen Beach and her husband Greg, Norma Jean Rishel; sister, Dianne Cutshaw; 3 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Billie Ruth Fletcher on April 15, 2019. James was also preceded in death by his brothers: Ralph, Milton, Robert, Edward, Preston and Benjamin Crouch;
James will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL during a private family ceremony at a later date. Arrangements under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
