Arthur W. Jakeway, Jr., also known as Jake, of Hernando, FL passed away at his home on June 8, 2021 at the age of 92 under the care of hospice and his family. He was born to the late Arthur W. Jakeway, Sr. and Luise M. Schmidt on December 18, 1928 in Leeds, NY. He and his beloved wife of 68 years, Jane, moved to St. Petersburg, Florida from New York in 1963 and finally made Hernando their home 30 years ago after moving from St. Petersburg.
He bravely and honorably served our country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War from December 1950 to November 1952. He was a serviceman through and through and served his community as a New York State Trooper for seven years, Sergeant of St. Petersburg Beach, and as a Crime Scene Investigator for St. Petersburg for 28 years, from which he eventually retired in 1991.
In his personal life, Jake enjoyed black powder shooting and Archery, playing tennis, and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his mini farm and many animals, and loved his dogs and cats dearly. He was a personal aircraft pilot and loved to fly. He will be remembered for being a kind and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Freida Masacera. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jane; his children, Beth Jakeway of Gainesville, FL and Pamela Smith (Teddy Smith) of High Springs, FL; his five grandchildren, Beverly, Jason, Cynthia, Megan, and Parker; and his four great-grandchildren, Karli, Kadin, Reece, and Colin.
Jake will be laid to rest at Royal Point North Funeral and Memorial Park in St. Petersburg, FL. A private Celebration of Life will be held in St. Petersburg at a later date. Cremation with Care is under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL.
