Col. Lonnie M. Davidson, 97, of Plant City passed to his eternal reward on May 8, surrounded by his family at home. His long life reflected one of selfless devotion to his country, community, and church. Colonel Davidson was a World War II veteran and military career officer whose service took him from Africa to Europe and Asia. He received the Purple Heart and the French Legion of Honor as a testament to his bravery and valor. His proudest assignment was being Commander of the First Squadron, 2nd Armored Calvary in Bayreuth Germany, whose squadron members remain lifelong friends. Lonnie’s young bride of 67 years, Mary Helen, preceded him in death. They made Plant City their home for 34 years. Colonel Davidson is survived by his daughters, Pamela Hotz (Don), Suzanne DiJiacomo (Louis), and Deborah Davidson; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; his brother Dick Davidson, sisters Gladys Keith, and Shirley Snyder. Service of remembrance will be held May 18 at First Presbyterian Church of Plant City. Viewing will be at 10 am followed by service at 11 am. Reception will follow. The church will air the services via Facebook Live. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the church. Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, Florida assisting the family.
