Jerry A Thompson

Jerry Allen Thompson, 74, of Inverness, FL passed away on May 21, 2021 in Lecanto, FL while under the care of HPH Hospice. He was born to the late James and Frances (Simpson) Thompson on October 11, 1946 in Quitman, Georgia and in 1989, made Citrus County his home after moving from Sumter County, FL. Jerry bravely served as a member of the United States Army and for 44+ years, defended and protected his cherished community by delivering justice and closure to families affected by violent crimes and homicides.
Jerry was a very devoted husband, father, brother, and son, as he was committed to his family. Jerry was also dedicated to his work, while striving for nothing less than teamwork amongst his criminal investigators to deliver justice. If his team was investigating a case, he was side by side with them, putting in the hard work and never requesting anything of his team, that he wouldn’t do himself. He relentlessly pursued the evidence to bring justice for families that desperately needed closure. He is described as one of the kindest, most generous, compassionate, and truthful men you would have the pleasure of meeting. Jerry worked as a Criminal Investigator for much of his career and later, became Under Sheriff from which he eventually retired. Jerry made his community a safer and better place, and for that, so many people are grateful.
Along with his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brother, Louie Thompson. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Kathy, his daughter, Melissa Thomas of Summerfield, FL, his brother, Jimmy (Sharon) of Panama City, FL, his four grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held by Jerry’s family at 1100 W Highland Blvd, Inverness, Fl. 34452, Cornerstone Baptist Church on June 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Cremation with Care is under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL.
