Walter Hugh Sportsman of Lecanto, FL went into the arms of Jesus on February 26, 2021 at the age of 82. Walter ( Bud ) was born to the late James and Elma (Sisk) Sportsman in Garden Plain, KS on November 9, 1938. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Following his military service, Walter worked as an arborist with the City of Sioux Falls and retired after 25 years of service.
He married the love of his life on April 7, 1958 in Fall River MA. They made their home in Sioux Falls SD where they raised their brood and attended Faith Temple Church.
After retiring they relocated to Hot Springs Village Arkansas where he enjoyed traveling, golfing spending time with family and whatever projects Mom had for him!
Shirlee passed away in September of 2005 while they were vacationing with friends.
Walter made Florida his home in 2015 after relocating from Hot Springs Village AR and attended the Cowboy Church in Lecanto. He loved playing golf in his spare time and could build and construct almost anything.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, David James Sportsman and wife Carlyn, of Yantis, TX; his daughters: Pamela Blackman and husband Ozzie, of New Port Richey, FL, Lori Pulford and husband Tim, of Newport TN, Sandee Sportsman and husband Mike of Dallas, TX; his sister, Pat McGee of Port Orange, FL; companion of 10 years, Amalia Thayer; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his brother Robbie and sisters Sue and Sandra.
Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
