Mary Alice Gingerich of Inverness, FL passed away at her home while under the care of Vitas Hospice and surrounded by her loving family on August 12, 2020 at the age of 86. Mary was born to the late Victor and Clara (Fitzgerald) Mullin in Ellisburg, NY on January 4, 1934. She just celebrated 35 years of marriage to her husband Steven on July 6, 2020. Mary and Steven made Inverness their home 5 years ago after relocating from Marilla, NY. She was a Christian by faith and a member of the Encounter Church in Coleman, FL. Mary was a Certified Nursing Assistant for a number of years working at both nursing homes and as a private caregiver. She eventually left healthcare to go to work with her husband in their automotive repair shop in Marilla, NY.
Mary loved to cook and entertain for friends and family. Some of her holiday specialties were chocolate pizza, chocolate covered cherries, nuts and caramel corn. She was an excellent baker and also enjoyed making canned goods. She liked gardening and tending to her flowers. However, Mary’s most favorite activity of all was spending time with her family and doting on her precious grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Steven, those left to mourn Mary’s passing include her daughters: Mary Jane Burns and her husband John of Hayesville, NC, Marilyn Jean Gleason and her husband Gary of Inverness, FL, Martha Joyce Gleason and her husband George of New Port Richey, FL, Michielle Atherton and her husband Randy Edge of Lady Lake, FL; son, Michael John Atherton and his wife Denise of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; brother, Ivan Mullin and his wife Pearl of Scottsville, NY; sister, Clara Elrod of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mary’s family plan to have a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at a later date. Cremation care by the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
