William Austin Douglas of Floral City, FL passed away at his home with his loving family by his side on August 1, 2020 at the age of 96. William was born in Akron, OH on June 20, 1924 to the late Harry Verling and Nora Elizabeth (Barber) Douglas. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a Veteran of World War II. After his military service, he went to work in Construction as a Carpenter. William made Citrus County his home in 2009 after relocating from Pine Island, FL. He was a member of Floral City VFW #7122 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Inverness, FL. In his spare time he enjoyed tinkering around the house and singing karaoke with his friends.
Those left to mourn William’s passing include his daughters: Kay Midgett of Port Charlotte, FL, Janie D. Walker and her husband Ricky of Caruthersville, MO; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion of many years, Karen White. William was preceded in death by his wife Juanita (Vance) Douglas; daughter, Annette Douglas; son in law, James Midgett; sisters: Blanche Vincent and Cherie Manhart.
William will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date. Cremation care by the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
