Patsy L Burgess

Patsy Lynn Burgess, 65, of Homosassa, FL, passed away May 26, 2020 at Bayfront Health in Brooksville, FL. Patsy was born in Richwood, WV to the late Elbert and Ruby (Cavendish) McCutcheon on October 2, 1954. Patsy moved with her family to St. Petersburg, FL in 1959, where she enjoyed many family adventures, including camping trips, weekends at the lake in Hernando and vacations and holidays with relatives up north.
Patsy enjoyed the snow, family and food (not necessarily in that order). It was while on one of her later vacations that she met and fell in love with her late husband, Darrell Burgess. They were married September 7, 1973 and had 20 wonderful years together before Darrell’s untimely passing in 1993. Patsy enjoyed flea markets, thrift stores, and the hunt for a good deal or special find. She was PTA President and Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army during the holiday season. She had love for many things: knowledge – obtaining her Master’s Degree from St. Leo College in 2003; friends, family, music, animals and God (definitely not in that order).
Obtaining her Master’s was not an easy task as you can imagine. Patsy was always humble and never boasted about her own accomplishments. However, her pride for her family, especially her children was always evident, and she was never happier than when she was talking about Sarah and Josh and their accomplishments. She especially enjoyed picnics, reunions, and get-togethers with her cherished family. Patsy was a long time member of the Hernando United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities, including as a member of the church’s Women’s Group, always with love and compassion for others.
Along with her parents, Patsy is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell and her sister, Peggy. Patsy is survived by her children, Sarah and Josh Burgess; her brother Tom (Kathy), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Patsy will be held at a later time and her ashes will be scattered at Zoar Church in Keslers Cross Lanes, WV, joining her husband, Darrell. Cremation with care is arranged by the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory in Inverness, FL.
