Lorraine S. Neander, 99, of Hernando, FL passed away on April 3, 2020 at her home. She was born to the late Harley A. and Gertrude Griffith Sackett on March 11, 1921 in Potsdam, NY. Lorraine graduated from Russell Sage College with a BS and trained at Columbia University for public health.
She worked as a public health nurse in St. Lawrence County, NY before moving to Salem, NJ to raise her family. She served on the boards of many non-profit organizations, generally those promoting the public health and was a long-time Red Cross volunteer nurse.
Lorraine was an avid Bridge player, a golfer, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness, FL. But most of all, she was of loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. In many ways, she was a woman ahead of her time. In all ways, she was a useful human being, giving her time and talents to make her community a little bit better.
Along with her parents, Lorraine is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David, of 61 years, who passed away on February 27, 2005 and by her cherished sister, Anita Fay and brother-in-law, Ralph Fay. She is survived by her three children, John D. Neander, Sr. (Karen) of Inverness FL, Mary Rosenfield (Daniel) of Lafayette, LA, and Susan Neander of Hernando, FL; her four grandchildren, Kristen, John Jr. (Lorrie), Matthew (Louise), and Elizabeth; and her two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Grayson. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
Cremation arrangements have been scheduled for Lorraine with a graveside memorial service to be scheduled in New York at a later date. Lorraine is in the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
