Gloria D Stokes

Gloria Danette Stokes, age 81, Inverness, Florida passed away at Vitas Hospice in Lecanto, FL on March 28, 2020, surrounded by family. Gloria was born in Ft Myers, FL on May 3, 1938 to the late Daniel W. Roberts and Sadie Thomas Roberts. She was a mother and homemaker, working as an assistant in a doctor’s office for many years. Gloria attended several churches in the area and was presently a member of the First Baptist Church of Inverness. Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with her family, crafts of all kinds, reading and antiquing. Gloria spent many years volunteering with various organizations, including her children’s schools and Hospice.

Left to cherish her memory are 3 children: Edwin E. Stokes, Jr of Homosassa, FL, Tony N. Stokes of Inverness, FL, and Heather L. Staggs-Miller of Jacksonville, FL; her sister, Linda Murae of Cario, GA; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves her former husband and devoted friend of 67 years, Edwin E. Stokes, Sr. of Inverness.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Stokes in 2014; 4 brothers: John, Jack, Thomas, and Daniel Roberts and an infant sister, Joann Roberts.

Due to the COVID-19 Virus restrictions, Gloria’s family will schedule a Celebration of Life at a later date. She is under the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, Inverness, FL.
