James F. “Jim” Loomis, of Inverness, passed away at Citrus Memorial Hospital on December 31, 2019 at the age of 83. Jim was born in Lake County, OH to the late Raymond and Minnie (Clark) Loomis on August 5, 1936. He proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard and also worked for Sears Roebuck as a Service Technician. On February 2, 1957 he married the love of his life, Brenda (Cain), with whom he shared 62 years of loving marriage. Following his retirement, Jim and Brenda made Citrus County their home in 1999 after relocating from Pennsylvania and were Christian by faith.
Jim was an extremely skilled wood carver, a talent that he and his wife both shared. He was a member and Treasurer of the Nature Coast Carving Club and his creations won several awards and ribbons over the years. Some of Jim’s work is currently displayed at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. In his spare time, he also enjoyed playing golf, fishing and was an avid online gamer, World of Warcraft being his favorite online game. Jim loved giving back to his community and was a volunteer for the hospice thrift store and the Citrus County Citizens Patrol group.
In addition to his wife Brenda, Jim’s passing will be mourned by his daughter, Kristin Nichols and her husband Nick, of Inverness and his sister, Trudie Mattson, of Plantation, FL. “Pop Pop” will also be missed by his grandchildren: Rachel, Jacob, Kaycee, Meredith, Karen, Laura, Marcy, Elizabeth, Kimberly; and his 11 great grandchildren.
