Richard Gilbert Wakefield, age 81, Inverness, FL passed away April 25, 2019 at the Life Care Center in Lecanto. Mr. Wakefield was born in Livonia, MI on March 26, 1938 to the late Alvin and Clara (Blotkamp) Wakefield and moved to Citrus County from Bushnell in 1994. He was a retired truck driver and served our country in the U.S. Air Force, being discharged in 1957.
“Dad was known by many as a jolly, joyful, big teddy bear. Loved by all Grandpa’s hugs were the best, he always make you feel warm and safe in his big arms.”
Left to cherish his memory are 2 children, Richard Wakefield of Indiana and Deborah Hughes and her husband, Scott, Floral City; 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Wakefield on August 5, 2014, his son, Dennis Wakefield in 2006; 1 brother, Alvin Wakefield, and his 2 sisters, Betty Baldwin and Dolores Walters.
Military Honors are scheduled at Florida National Cemetery on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 11:30 AM where full military honors will be rendered by Floral City VFW Post #7122 Honor Guard. Friends may meet at the funeral home and visit the family from 10:00 AM until the procession departs for the cemetery at 10:45 AM.
