Dorothy Patterson, 102 years young, of Inverness, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Arbor Trail Rehab & Nursing in Inverness. Born on January 8, 1917 in Marion, Ohio to the late Fred and Crystal Morrison, she came to Citrus County in 1980 from Titusville, NJ.
Dorothy was a survivor of the Great Depression. She attended many games at Wrigley field and was a Cubs fan until 2001, when the club traded first baseman Mark Grace. In 1935 she eloped with her future husband, Lyle. They then moved from job to job and apartment to apartment while trying to make ends meet. They didn’t move into their first home until 1943. During WWII, Dorothy worked in an airplane factory. Following the war she started her 38 year career with the State of New Jersey in civil service. After retiring and moving to Citrus County, she started contributing to many local organizations, including the Path, Key Training Center, and Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch. She was someone who cared about those who “just need more in life”.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Thomas L Patterson and his wife, Cindy, of Inverness; Judith Ann Janecek and husband, Bill, of Princeton, TX and Richard E. Patterson and wife Marie of Inverness; sixteen grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lyle, on May 3, 1997.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life of service will be conducted on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 3:30 PM, from the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness, with Rev. Greg Kell, of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, FL 32064.
