Mary Ann Bassett, 88 of Hernando, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Ocala Regional Medical Center. Mary Ann was born on February 1, 1930 in Toledo, OH to the late Irving and Gladys (Larrow) Heipel.
Mary Ann was a Postmaster for the US Postal Service in Manton, MI and loved to collect antique bottles. She moved to Citrus County in 1985 from Cadillac, MI. She was a volunteer at Citrus Memorial Hospital and a member of the Arbor Lakes Chorus. She was a founding member of the St. Raphael of Brooklyn Orthodox Church in Inverness, where she also was a member of the choir. She attended every service when she was able and was willing to help the church, and especially Fr. Sergious, in any way that she could. She was granted a Gramata from the central church for her dedication.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Betsy Thompson of Coleman, MI; Tim Caldwell of Breckenridge, MI; Jerry Caldwell of Midland, MI; Tom Caldwell of Louisville, KY; her sister, Carol Allen of Lansing, MI; devoted best friend, “adopted” daughter, and caregiver Georgeanne Vukmir of Hernando. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard in 2006; her brother, Irving Heipel and sisters, Vella Mae Jockett and Barbara Heipel.
Viewing will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at St. Raphael of Brooklyn Orthodox Church, 1277 N. Paul Dr., Inverness, FL with Funeral Divine Liturgy at 11 AM with Fr. Sergious Gerken, celebrant. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church for funeral expenses. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness.
