Daniel W Sawyer

Daniel Webster Sawyer, age 87, Inverness, FL passed away December 31, 2018 at home under the loving care of his family and Vitas Hospice. A life time resident of Citrus County, FL, he was born September 27, 1931 in Inverness to the late David and Ruby (Elliott) Sawyer. Danny was employed by the City of Inverness for 38 years, retiring as the Director of Public Works, and was a long time member of the First Christian Church of Inverness where he served as an Elder. Danny also was a member of Crystal Masonic Lodge No. 156, AF&AM. In his younger days, he served as president of the Quarterback Club at Booker T. Washington School.

Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his daughter, Patricia McGuire of Indianapolis, IN; three brothers: Willie Sawyer and wife, Annie Ruth, St. Petersburg, FL; Emmitt Sawyer and wife, Dorothy, St. Petersburg, FL; Herman Sawyer, Memphis, TN; 2 sisters: Wilhelmina Pittman and Norma Williams, both of West Palm Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren: Myla Sawyer-Blair, Jennifer Mack, Peggy Phillips, Isaiah and Joshua McGuire, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including special nephew, Lariat Smith and special niece, Ruby Allen; Goddaughter, Nadine (Michael) Redding, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Sawyer and three brothers, Edward, David and Preston Sawyer.

A Home Going Service is scheduled for Sunday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM from the First Christian Church of Inverness with Rev. Dr. Ray Kelley and Rev. Tom Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Inverness. Friends may view the body from 1:00 PM in the church until the service begins. There will be no viewing following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being accepted by the First Christian Church of Inverness, 2018 Colonade Street, Inverness, FL 34453. The family extends a special thanks to the membership and pastors of the First Christian Church, Christine S. Wright, Annette Palmer, Felix Rosa, Ashby Nelson, and Arthur and Helen Kozart. The Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home of Inverness is serving the family.
