David Paul Brainerd, age 64, of Inverness, FL went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 29th. David was born June 18, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Margaret (Cooper) and Ira Brainerd Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Desiree Smith Brainerd who shared their lives for 18 years, Brothers Ira, Robert, and Carl Brainerd and sisters Beverly Fuller, Barbara and Carol Brainerd, and several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty Brainerd.
David and Desiree moved to Inverness in 2001 from Key Largo, FL when they came to visit friends and David found his dream home which he named the D-N-D Ranch. He retired as a Journeyman Electrician. David graduated with honors from the Tampa Technical Institute with a degree in Computer Engineering Technology. He was a member of the VFW Post 4337 and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #3992 in Inverness, FL. David was an avid Nascar, Dale Earnhardt, and dragster fan. He spent many years going with his family and friends to races and even took his nephew Tyler Brantley to his first drag race. He taught some of his nieces and nephews to drive on the ranch. First with the golf cart and then with the old ranch truck, and always floored the gas pedal on them as they were driving across the pastures. He loved riding his Harley, driving his truck, and most of all he loved his dogs who he called his boys, Jake, Cody and Munchkin. He was never without a pat, a kind word and biscuit or treat for them.
He was a Christian who prayed daily and was a patient and faithful loving husband to Desiree. He was a kind and giving man and was always the first to help someone in need. David and Desiree met in Key Largo when David moved there after Hurricane Andrew. They spent many wonderful years boating and enjoying life with there many friends. He was known for his pineapple and ham dish at every potluck there and always had a smile and would ask “Who loves ya” and give that pinch. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
