Kenneth Paul Wackes, age 78, of Crystal River, FL, passed away at his residence on March 22, 2018. Kenneth was born on March 27, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Paul George and Ruth Eunice (Sutcliffe) Wackes.
On July 2, 1960, he married Ruth (Markle) with whom he shared 57 loving years of marriage. Ken and Ruth made Citrus County their home in 2004 after relocating from Ft. Lauderdale and attended 7 Rivers Presbyterian Church. Ken was the Headmaster of the Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, for over 30 years. He was the Executive Director of Christian Schools of Florida, and later the Chief Executive Officer.
In his spare time, Kenneth loved to read, go fishing, gardening and genealogy. He was the author of 2 E-Books, “A Survey of World History from a Christian Perspective” and “Building my Marriage Before it Begins”. In January of 2014, Kenneth was diagnosed with ALS and wrote about his experience on his Blog, Learning to Trust God with ALS.
In addition to his wife Ruth, those left to mourn Ken’s passing include his son, Paul Wackes and his wife Allison of Coral Springs, FL; daughters: Karen Beard and her husband Anthony of Hernando, FL, Linda Turner and her husband Robert of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers: Steve Wackes of Ft. Myers, FL, Alan Wackes of Yankeetown, FL; sisters: Eunice Lewis of Claremont, FL, Cheryl Bowe-Rodriguez of Woodruff, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A celebration of Ken’s life is planned for Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church, Lecanto, with Reverend Ray Cortese officiating. Cremation care is under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
