William S Bryant

William S. Bryant, resident of Inverness, FL., passed away peacefully at a local nursing home Friday, December 15, 2017. Bill was born January 21, 1937 in Buckfield, Maine to parents James and Florence Bryant. The family moved to South Paris when he was four years old where he grew up, completed his formative education and graduated from Paris High School.

Bill was happily married to his loving wife, Ursula for 37 years and together they have an extended family of seven children. Surviving daughters – Susanne Adams, Madelyn Meier & Ron Copp, Marlene Ng & Po, and Andrea Schaper & Dale. Surviving sons – Francis Meier & Mary Olivas, Mark Bryant and Stephen Bryant & Patty. Bill also leaves a surviving brother Richard Bryant & wife Nan, a sister-in-law Evelyn Bryant, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Bill was encouraged by his brother Joe to pursue his career in teaching. He took his brother’s advice and started teaching in 1968 fifth and sixth graders science, social studies, reading and study skills. He taught grade school until he became principal in 1989 before he retired from that position in 1994. During his endeavors, he was a drivers’ education teacher, an athletic director and held several membership involving numerous teacher associations.

Bill was always an avid sports fan and was involved any chance he could to participate in the game with passion and devotion. He loved to umpire and referee any game but his true love was baseball and basketball. His many adventures with his wife included mountain climbing, X-country skiing from their back yard in Buckfield, biking together with the family on trails in Maine and New Hampshire, especially down Franconia Notch, NH. He enjoyed going to the Maine State Music Theater in Brunswick, Maine and Boston Theater for the various venues and performances. Several of the most memorable trips was traveling through Europe with his wife visiting family and experiencing different cultures.

In 2000, Bill and Ursula moved to Florida and started to enjoy the Floridian life style. To pass the time, Bill enjoyed working at H & R Block during tax season. When he officially retired, Bill joined the Senior Softball Team called Kids & Cubs in St. Petersburg. He was always up for a baseball game with either the Red Sox or Tampa Bay Rays.

A funeral service of remembrance is planned for Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 3:00 PM from the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, 3075 S. Florida Avenue, Inverness, FL 34450, with Reverend Greg Kell of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. Friends may join William’s family in visitation beginning at 2:00 PM until the hour of service. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
