Alfred E. Mason, 85, of Homosassa, FL passed away November 28, 2017 at Sunflower Springs ALF in Homosassa, FL. He was born in East Orange, NJ on December 3, 1931 to the late Alfred E. and Ardelle (Henerlau) Mason. Alfred was employed by New Jersey Bell Telephone where he started as an apprentice and eventually retired as an Engineer.

On March 7, 1953, he married Ruth (Nielsen) with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Alfred and Ruth arrived in this area in 2005 after relocating from New Jersey. He was a protestant by faith, and enjoyed computers. Alfred was a member of the Tom’s River New Jersey Masonic Lodge # 18, F.& A.M., and was affiliated with the Floral City Masonic Lodge #133 F.& A.M. He was past president of the Leisure Village Association of New Jersey and served on many boards throughout his life including the Pinehurst Village Association and the Sunflower Springs Association. While residing in New Jersey, he was an active member of the Shriner’s and played the trumpet for them in parades. He often visited children in the hospital that had suffered burns and assisted them and their families so they could seek treatment at the Shriner’s Hospital. Alfred also enjoyed writing letters to the editor and was published many times in the Citrus Chronicle Newspaper.

In addition to his loving wife Ruth, Alfred is survived by son Charles Mason of Holiday, FL; daughter Christine Alte of Crystal River, FL; grandchildren: Justin, Thomas, Lori, Kevin and Teresa; and great grandchild, Jackson. Alfred was predeceased by his son, Alfred G. Mason and his son-in-law, Thomas A. Alte. Donations can be made in Alfred’s memory to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464.
