Charles R. Ellinger, 69, of Inverness, FL passed away on September 25, 2017 at Shands at U.F. Hospital in Gainesville, FL. He was born in New York, NY on June 25, 1948. Charles was a retired police officer with the Suffolk County New York Police Dept. with 28 years of service, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War era stationed in Germany.
He arrived in this area in 2009, coming from New York. Charles was a Protestant by faith, and enjoyed Bible study. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed firearms, exercising, listening to music and spending time with family and friends. Charles held memberships in the MENSA Society, and the Henry George Society.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ellinger. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 7 years, Richelle Ellinger. Other survivors include his children Adam Ellinger and his wife Lindsay Foot of Boston, MA, Melissa Ellinger of Spring Hill, FL, and Melanie Ellinger of Clearwater, FL, mother Edna Cody of Salisbury, MD; brother Robert Ellinger of Islip, NY; sisters Carolyn Favole and her husband Fred of St. Simons, GA, MaryAnne Ellinger of Huntington Bay, NY, Dorothea Anders and her husband Ron of Summervile, SC, and Kerri Ellinger of Salisbury, MD; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan, Keianna, Mekayla, Harrison, and Annalise.
A Gathering of Family and Friends is scheduled for Saturday, October, 7, from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness. Charles’s urn will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at a later date.
