Larry Dean Jenkins, age 80, of Floral City, FL, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto. Larry was born on May 27, 1937 in Mount Vernon, WA, to the late Harry and Ella (Blanch) Jenkins.
He proudly served his country as a Green Beret in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran having served 4 tours of duty there. Larry was a recipient of the Purple Heart and also awarded a Bronze Star. After his military service, he was a steel worker for both Boeing Industries and Skagit Steel and worked as a crossing guard for the Sedro Woolley School District in Washington state.
Larry was married to Caroline (Meanor) for 38 years and they made Citrus County their home 17 years ago after relocating from Sedro Woolley, WA. A Baptist by faith, he was a member of the Fort Cooper Baptist Church, Inverness. While living in Washington state, Larry enjoyed trap shooting and camping. He truly loved nature, the outdoors and encounters with wildlife. After moving to Florida, he took up an interest in woodworking and enjoyed making decorative pieces for his yard and gifts for family and friends.
In addition to his loving wife Caroline, those left to cherish Larry’s memory are his daughter, Cindi Herwig and her husband David of Pennsburg, PA; sons: Toney Jenkins, Thomas Gillooly, Lawrence Gillooly; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Bonnie Young.
A Funeral Service for Larry is planned for Monday, October 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, with Pastor Marne Palmani of Fort Cooper Baptist Church officiating. Larry will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, where full military honors will be rendered by Floral City VFW #7122 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends in visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
